Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor Nature Cruise

This morning, you’ll meet your local guide for a tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor has been celebrated for its breathtaking beauty ever since the island was discovered in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain, who named it "Isle de Monts Desert" (Mt. Desert Island) for its bare, desert-like mountaintops. Here in the first national park founded east of the Mississippi, you’ll see 9 mountains over 1000 feet high, stone bridges, lakes, ponds, trails and carriage roads. You will travel the entire Park Loop road with stops at Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive and Sieur De Mont Springs Wild Gardens of Acadia, plus learn about the rich and famous visitors who built summer cottages in Bar Harbor.
You’ll tour this diverse flora, the Wild Gardens of Acadia have tried to mimic the growing conditions found in these ecosystems of the park. You’ll visit the 13 habitats.
Lunch on your own in Bar Harbor with free time to explore the waterfront shops and shoreline walking path.
Next, take a scenic Bar Harbor nature cruise. Cruise on Frenchman’s Bay, where you will search for eagles, porpoises, seals and other marine mammals and birds aboard this narrated sightseeing cruise. Pass by Egg Rock lighthouse and see the coastline views of Acadia National Park aboard the Acadian.
Don your souvenir Maine Lobster Hat for a traditional Maine lobsterbake dinner with all the fixin’s. Your meal will be steamed in a large cooker where you can watch and ask questions about the lobster fishing and lobster cooking. You’ll want to bring your appetite and camera when the cover is lifted to reveal the colorful blend of lobsters, clams, potato and corn-on-the-cob amidst the cloud of steam. Alternate menus are steak and haddock.

Asticou Azalea Gardens and Thuya Terraces & Winery Tour
Enjoy a breakfast this morning at your hotel.
Tour the Asticou Azalea Gardens and Thuya Terraces (note Thuya Gardens are only accessible via an uphill hike. There is no motorcoach access at the top. (We can make arrangements for transportation for anyone unable to walk. Option to stay at the Azalea gardens as well) The Asticou Terraces, is a combination of formal English flower beds with informal Japanese effects. Shrine-like pavilions, a pool, tone jars and tubs are set against a background of Maine woods and cedar fencing. This garden is famous for its azaleas.
Enjoy an included lunch today at the elegant Asticou Inn overlooking Northeast Harbor.

Boothbay Harbor, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Lobster Traps & Seal Watching
Enjoy breakfast this morning before you’ll travel south this morning to Boothbay Bay Harbor.
Boothbay Harbor, the sailing capital of mid-coast Maine. Yachtsmen and artists began vacationing here in the early 1900's. This popular sailing destination and resort town features local galleries, boutiques and plenty of casual restaurants.
You’ll have a guided tour of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. See the beautiful coastline along woodland paths and walk along scenic riverbank paths. Here the majestic Maine woods meet the rocky shores with indigenous Maine flora and fauna.
You’ll have a free time to explore the picturesque Boothbay waterfront. Lunch on your won.
Cruise on Linekin Bay for a Lobster trap Hauling and Seal watch adventure. to see how those delicious lobsters you enjoy at your favorite restaurant are caught, how the traps are hauled and learn how the lobsterman make their living.
Travel to the Portland, Maine area, which is Maine’s largest city-by-the sea. Check in to the Hyatt Place Old Port - perfectly located in the Old Port neighborhood, with tons of restaurants, shops and historic buildings nearby and 1 block from the water. Free time to explore the Old Port with dinner on own.

Wednesday, June 17
Portland & Kennebunkport, Maine
Enjoy breakfast this morning at your hotel.
Meet your local guide for a narrated tour of Kennebunkport. Drive past the sandy beaches and rocky coastline, past the George Bush estate at Walker’s Point, hear the history of these shipbuilding towns and the legend of the Wedding Cake House. You'll also visit the seaside Franciscan Monastery with its beautiful landscaping, outdoor shrines and chapel.
Enjoy Free time for shopping and lunch on own in Dock Square along the Kennebunkport waterfront.
This afternoon we will have another excursion in the Portland area.
Free time to explore the Old Port with dinner on own.
Thursday, June 18
Portland, Freeport Village, & Maine Wildlife Park
Enjoy Breakfast this morning at your hotel.
Meet your local guide (at the hotel) for a tour of historic Portland, including a stop at Portland Head Lighthouse - Maine's oldest and most photographed.
Travel north to Freeport village, home of sporting goods king, L.L. Bean and numerous outlet shops and restaurants. Free time for shopping in Freeport with many casual cafes from which to choose for lunch on your own.
Visit the Maine Wildlife Park, a 200-acre park with over 30 different native species of wildlife on exhibit, including MOOSE, plus black bears, mountain lions, porcupines, nocturnal animals, coyotes, owls, eagles, trophy trout, fish hatchery and gift shop.
Farewell dinner at DiMillo's On the Water, a unique Portland waterfront restaurant. Once a large car ferry that operated between Newport and Jamestown RI, DiMillo's is now a dining landmark in Portland's Old Port. (Breakfast, Dinner)
