Portland Rose Festival
The Portland Rose Festival, steeped in tradition and heritage, has been a source of pride and a symbol of unity for the community of Portland Oregon since 1889. For over 130 years, the festival has brought together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate the enduring beauty and charm of the rose – a flower that symbolizes love, friendship, and joy.
This week-long event, punctuated by a flurry of activities, culminates in the Grand Floral Parade and the Queen’s Coronation, a spectacle that never fails to dazzle the thousands of spectators who line the streets each year.
Integral to the festival is the Annual Spring Rose Show, held at the Lloyd Center. As the largest and longest-running rose show in the nation, it showcases more than 4,000 blooms, each more breathtaking than the last. The intoxicating fragrances and stunning beauty of the roses provide a sensory experience like no other.
Every year, an Official Rose is chosen, a distinction that is highly anticipated and celebrated. In 2023, the Official Rose was ‘Smiles For Miles’, symbolizing optimism and joy. Prior years’ Official Roses were ‘Rosey Reunion’ in 2022 and ‘Burst of Hope’ in 2021, each rose with a special significance and theme.
The Rose Festival Collector’s edition rose, ‘Sun Shower’, is now exclusively available at Portland Nursery. A beautiful and disease-resistant Floribunda, ‘Sun Shower’ produces an abundance of fade-resistant blooms in shades of apricot, yellow, and pink throughout the summer. For every ‘Sun Shower’ rose bush purchased, Portland Nursery donates $2.00 to the Portland Rose Festival Foundation. With a commitment to supporting local events like the Portland Rose Festival, Portland Nursery continues to be an integral part of the community’s love for gardening and the enduring beauty of roses.
